FUNCTION OF “YELLOW” SAFETY SPECTACLES
When it comes to clear and dark safety spectacles, their purpose is obvious to most users - light shields from particles (liquid or solid), and dark to strong light. On the other hand, the purpose of spectacles with yellow lenses is sometimes not quite clear, so we will briefly explain it here. Copper, orange, yellow and brown lenses are useful in low light conditions as they make the work environment brighter. They also enhance depth perception and are great for cloudy and foggy conditions. These colored lenses block the blue light. Blue light is light with a shorter wavelength, scattering more easily than other colors, making it difficult to focus on objects. Removing blue light improves sharpness, depth perception and reduces eye fatigue. In cloudy and foggy conditions, additional water vapor in the air increases the scattering of blue light resulting in a decrease in visual acuity. The eyes then have to work harder which leads to eye fatigue and very often a headache. In these working conditions it is best to use spectacles with yellow lenses. Copper lenses most effectively block out blue light, but they can be too dark to be worn inside work halls and generally work spaces (artificial lighting spaces). Therefore, in these conditions, it is advisable to use spectacles with yellow lenses that both sufficiently transmit light and sufficiently block blue light. Professional drivers are also advised to wear spectacles with yellow lenses - in addition to enhancing perception - enhancing the color red. As stop lights (and other warning signs such as stop, triangle, etc.) are red, with the use of this type of lens these lights become much more visible to the driver, and thus his reaction can be faster. Yellow tinted lenses also have benefit for people who spend a lot of time in front of monitors, tablets, and for smartphone users. All of these devices have strong blue light emission. MEDICAL PROPERTIES OF “YELLOW” LENSES OF GLASSES Recent research also shows some medical properties of using this type of safety goggles. SLEEPING PROBLEMS - Excessive light (especially white light) emitted by electronic devices (tablets, phones, etc.) and ambient light suppresses the secretion of melatonin (the hormone of sleep). Wearing this type of goggles an hour before bed can make it easier for some people to fall asleep faster. BIPOLAR DISORDER - Preliminary research shows that blocking blue light can help stabilize mood in people suffering from some type of bipolar disorder ‚counter to light therapy used in depressed people. MACULA OF RETINA DEGENERATION - YELLOW SPOT - Excessive blue light can be one of the main causes of yellow spot degeneration, and it is one of the main causes of blindness in the elderly.
