Dunlop® Protective Footwear is the world’s leading manufacturer of protective footwear. In more than 50 countries around the world, it provides comfortable and protective footwear for workers in agriculture and fisheries, the food industry, the oil, gas and mining industries. Thanks to continuous innovation combined with expertise and craftsmanship, they provide the safety and comfort that every worker deserves.

Dunlop history goes back to 1888, when a Scottish veterinarian named John Boyd Dunlop had a simple idea that changed the world.

While he was watching his son ride on a tricycle one day, he noticed how uncomfortable he was, riding over stones and uneven terrain with hard, rubber tires. He covered the wheels in thin, rubber sheets, glued them together and made them springy by pumping them up with a football pump. And there it was, the pneumatic tire providing his son lots of comfort riding his bike. In 1888, John applied for a patent for the pneumatic rubber tire and in 1889 he opened his first tire factory in Dublin, Ireland.

During the following years, numerous achievements of this company followed: Dunlop® was registered as a brand, HEVEA was founded: production of rubber products, Dunlop golf ball and tennis racket…

In 1927, Dunlop teamed up with Liverpool Rubber Co Ltd and expanded his production with protective footwear. And hence the Dunlop boot was born. Offering comfort, protection and durability.

In 1980, Hevea invented Purofort, a unique material with millions of evenly distributed air pockets, making it extremely lightweight and thermally insulated. The cross-linked structure of the material provides flexibility and strength. Almost 40 years later, there’s still no other work boot that is as lightweight and strong as a Purofort boot, thanks to the special recipe that has been kept secret to this day.

Innovation in Purofort material

Purofort® material is the most advanced material from the Dunlop development team. Millions of air pockets are evenly pressed into the synthetic material using a special technology, which achieves superior lightness, durability and thermal insulation compared to rubber and PVC. Purofort® is significantly warmer, 35% lighter and twice as durable as rubber and PVC boots. It is resistant to mineral, animal and vegetable oils and fats, acids, bases, disinfectants, blood and other chemicals. The surface treatment is smooth, which makes it easier to maintain hygiene.

Dunlop has set new standards in the occupational safety industry thanks to its revolutionary Purofort®️ material. This material brings a number of impressive advantages such as – high flexibility and durability, excellent insulating and thermal properties, exceptional resistance to chemicals, complete waterproof even in the most demanding weather conditions, durability and sustainability, as well as an ergonomic design and anatomical insole, which ensure optimal comfort. and additional foot support during long work shifts. It is extremely resistant to wear and tear, ensuring a long life for the boots, even in the most challenging work environments.

The Purofort®️ material and exceptional performance of Dunlop boots make them the leading choice for occupational protection in a variety of industries.

Protection in different work environments

Dunlop safety boots stand out for their adaptability to different industries and work environments, and a key element of this adaptability is specially designed soles.

Soles are a key aspect of any work boot, and Dunlop is focused on providing superior performance and protection. What is special about Dunlop soles is that each type of sole is adapted to the specific needs of different industries:

  • Boots for the construction industry have a sole that is durable and provides protection against sharp objects on the construction site
  • The agricultural industry boots have a deep tread sole for better traction on uneven terrain and don’t retain mud
  • Boots for the food industry have a sole that is slip resistant and easy to clean. It is also resistant to mineral, animal, vegetable oils and fats, disinfectants and other chemicals
  • Chemical industry boots have a chemical and acid resistant sole

Commitment to designing custom soles ensures that workers receive the best protection and functionality regardless of the industry they work in.

Acifort® technology

Acifort® is another material developed by Dunlop. Acifort® is a combination of the words Acid and comfort – boots made of this material are resistant to acids, bases, mineral, animal and vegetable oils and fats, disinfectants, blood and other chemicals. It is a unique mixture of PVC (base material), nitrile rubber (provides comfort and resistance to the listed chemicals) and polymer (provides durability). Acifort® material is even 50% more durable than classic PVC and is resistant to staining, which means that the boots will retain their original color for a long time. The improved antibacterial lining of the boots made of Acifort® material provides additional comfort when wearing and prevents the appearance of unpleasant odors.
